When chemicals react with eachother they form compounds that are nothing like the original elements, this is what happens with the 2 hydrogen atoms and the oxygen atom. They react together and you get liquid water (H2O). The reason we cannot breathe liquid water is because the oxygen is used to make the water bond to two hydrogen atoms. The oxygen is useless to our lungs in that form! :o)
